Web AI Intern

Our OS team in Helsinki Research center is looking for an enthusiastic and talented Web AI Intern for Browser Engine Researcher position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and develop proof-of-concepts (POCs) using Machine Learning (ML) or Agentic domains to optimize web performance (e.g., page load times, gesture response, janks, white screen, etc.), power consumption (CPU/GPU) and memory usage. Explore new AI use cases in web for mobile operating systems.
  • Explore, evaluate and prototype cutting-edge technologies such as AI/LLM, AI/Compute, and other advancements for new use-cases and improved parallelism, throughput, and efficiency within Chromium/Blink (C++) for mobile SoC/GPU.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research in both academia and industry (e.g., Perplexity Comet, Fellou Browser, Edge/Co-pilot, Chrome-Gemini, etc.) and provide insightful analysis and reports on new developments.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in BSc, MSc or PhD studies in Computer Science or related field.
  • Solid understanding of AI/LLM/SLM tools and workflows.
  • Strong experience in C++ programming with a good understanding of browser engine and graphics principles (OpenGL ES, Vulkan, Direct3D).
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Open-minded with an active attitude to learn and grow.

We also appreciate if one of the following qualifications is met:

  • Achievements in Linear Algebra/Math, programming talent competitions or browser/graphics-related hackathons.
  • Prior experience with C/C++ or other system-level programming.
  • Strong knowledge of Generative or Agentic AI, LLM or SML technologies.
  • Strong understanding of web browser internals (e.g., parsing, layout, painting, rasterization, composition).
  • Prior experience in mobile systems or web/graphics-related projects.
  • Contributions to open-source projects, including submitting patches or papers presented at conferences like W3C, GSOC, or Hackathons.

Internship period and starting date: This internship will begin as soon as the ideal candidate has been selected and will last 3 – 6 months. The expected start date and duration will be agreed with the selected candidate. Students who are seeking a longer internship or wishing to complete their thesis are welcome to apply.

Location: On-site in Tampere or Helsinki, Finland.
