Software Engineer III, Generative AI Services

What We’re Looking For:

We are looking for a software engineer with a passion for generative AI. You will collaborate with a team of engineers to build and maintain the backend generative AI services for 2U/edX. You will uphold industry best practices and will help encourage our team to continuously improve. Above all, you care about delivering quality software in a sustainable and timely manner and about software craftsmanship.

Sitting within the Service Experience portfolio, the Xpert Platform team builds and maintains services used throughout the company to provide artificial intelligence services that other engineering teams can employ. These services include data retrieval from large data sources, RAG, tagging, summarization and a chat widget.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

• Write maintainable, performant code
• Conduct exploratory and automated testing
• Efficiently debug complex problems
• Lead technical design of applications and participate in larger system design efforts
• Provide technical guidance and feedback to other team-members

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

• 5+ years of experience with Python
• Experience working with NodeJS, ReactJS
• Experience building APIs
• AWS services: Lambda, Step Functions, OpenSearch, DynamoDB
• Background delivering quality software in a sustainable and timely manner
• Prior experience leading cross-functional development initiatives and projects

Other Attributes That Will Help You In This Role:

• Experience with serverless development
• AWS Services: SNS/SQS, API Gateway, DocumentDB
• Monitoring and alerting tools such as Datadog

The standard working hours for this role are from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM SAST.
