Build the next generation of AI to design cars, planes, and spaceships - turning yesterday’s science fiction into today’s engineering reality.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
At Synera, we’re rethinking how engineers build products — by automating complex design processes and weaving cutting-edge AI into the engineering stack.
We’re now looking for a Senior AI/LLM Engineer with deep, practical experience to play a key role in shaping this transformation. You’ll be a key driver in shaping how LLMs are used across our platform — from technical strategy to hands-on implementation. If you’ve architected LLM-powered systems, deployed production-grade pipelines, and are eager to own major parts of a fast-moving product, this role is for you.
As an experienced member of our AI team, you’ll work cross-functionally with product leads, software engineers, and industry stakeholders to bring sophisticated LLM features to life. You’ll not just ship — you’ll shape the direction of our AI stack and help others level up along the way.
What your week at Synera can look like:
- Monday: You join our all-hands, then lead a technical deep-dive into model strategy for a new generative feature. You review an architectural decision that impacts long-term scalability.
- Tuesday: You collaborate with Product to evaluate where intelligent assistants or autonomous agents can meaningfully enhance user workflows — and push back where they can’t.
- Wednesday: You focus on improving our evaluation framework for LLM performance across customer segments. You also mentor a more junior engineer on RAG optimization.
- Thursday: You prototype a hybrid RAG system that integrates structured simulation data and unstructured user inputs. You make critical calls about model orchestration and latency trade-offs.
- Friday: You wrap up your work in a short async demo, share a few insights on what worked (or didn’t), and propose an experiment for next week. Then you log off knowing what you did this week is already running in someone’s workflow.
This was our summer event last year. :) Join our next team event to connect, relax, and have fun together with other Synerians!
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
- You will work with top AI technologies, solving real-world challenges for industry leaders like BMW Group, MAN or NASA.
- Use your yearly personal development budget of 2.000€ to attend conferences and trainings or buy interesting books to improve in an area of your choice.
- We don’t believe in one-fits-all solutions and therefore let you decide when & where to work (as long as you have a residency in Germany).
- You benefit from a wide range of employee perks — including access to Wellpass, Hansefit, nilo and personalized coaching — to support your physical, mental and professional well-being.
- Flexible public holidays - swap days off according to your values and beliefs!
- In case you’ll work remotely, we’ll help you get set up at home and invite you to come and visit Bremen from time-to-time.
- Spend time together with your colleagues during regular team events, virtual coffee breaks or spontaneous afterworks :-) For summer & winter we usually get together with the whole company to spend 2-3 days somewhere nice!
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
Even if you don’t meet these criteria perfectly but believe you have lots to bring to the role, we encourage you to apply. We know it’s tough, but please keep in mind that you don’t have to match all the listed requirements exactly to be considered for this role.
- Proven LLM experience: 5+ years building and shipping complex NLP or LLM systems in production balancing research with real-world constraints
- You consider more than just code — reflecting on how your work supports business goals, improves user experiences, and ensures long-term maintainability.
- You write clear, reliable Python (including async), design for scalability and maintainability, and have deployed AI services using containerization (Docker) and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)
- You’ve worked with platforms like OpenAI, Hugging Face, or Cohere and have architected and scaled LLM agents (e.g. with LangChain Agents, CrewAI, OpenAI Assistants or AutoGen)
- You have designed and deployed RAG systems end-to-end.
- You understand when to fine-tune (e.g., LoRA, PEFT) vs. prompt-engineer, and how to optimize context windows, chunking, and search strategies.
- You stay current with AI research and tools, adopting what’s useful and ignoring the hype.
- You actively support your peers by sharing knowledge, contributing to architecture discussions, and balancing hands-on work with helping the team grow.
Synera is a place where everyone can grow and every voice is valued. So, however you identify yourself and whatever background you have, if this role excites you, please apply with your English CV (no photo and birth date needed :)). Tell us how your unique perspective will benefit our team.
