Engineering Manager - Machine Learning

We are looking for a Machine Learning Engineering Manager to join our Machine Learning Team, Data Science & Engineering Domain.

About the Team

The Data Science and Engineering Domain is a centralized organization that includes data engineering, machine learning, and data analytics. Our mission is to drive business growth through data monetization, enablement, and ML/AI-powered customer experiences.

The Machine Learning team is responsible for designing and implementing state-of-the-art models for content recommendation, automated content curation and a broad range of applications dedicated to enhancing the overall customer experience while optimizing internal operations.

We work with Google Cloud Platform, and our production models are built in Python. Our data stack includes but is not limited to BigQuery, Looker, dbt and is evolved continuously with additional tooling and platforms to support the full data lifecycle management.

About the Role

You will lead a diverse team of data scientists and machine learning engineers at various seniority levels. In the past few years, we have been on a journey to establish our Machine Learning Platform foundations while evolving key existing machine-learning assets within the product.

As a Machine Learning Engineering Manager, you will play a critical role in driving our organization’s development and management of machine learning products and platform components, from ideation to production.

This role will report to the Director of Data Science and Engineering but will work closely with the product and data teams in day-to-day operations and cross-functionally with other business teams leveraging model outputs in their workflows.

Some other things you will do include:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of data scientists and ML engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
• Partner with product teams to shape strategies and initiatives, following the triple diamond process and establishing appropriate success metrics.
• Translate technical and business strategies into actionable plans, owning the ML team’s roadmap, including product and engineering deliverables.
• Drive innovation by staying informed about the latest algorithms, research, and tooling and implementing pilot projects to assess potential and build team expertise.
• Establish and optimize ways of working within the team and with stakeholders across the business, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations.
• Oversee the technical quality of work produced by the team, including architecture, design, and coding practices.
• Set ambitious engineering goals for the team and adapt strategies to meet changing business requirements.
• Represent the team at external conferences and meetups, advocating for our ML capabilities and fostering industry relationships.

About You

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, with 5+ years of industry experience in machine learning or data science roles, preferably from tech companies
• Minimum 2 years of leadership experience
• Deep understanding of various ML/AI methodologies, including ML, NLP and LLMs.
• Experienced in building and scaling ML systems, with solid knowledge of ML infrastructure, tools, and frameworks
• A balanced mix of technical expertise, and deep domain knowledge with a strong focus on customer satisfaction and high-impact outcomes
• Strong communication skills to partner with stakeholders effectively, and you can successfully bridge with non-technical audiences
• Passionate about new technologies and keeping up to date with industry trends & innovations
• Adaptability and agility in responding to changing business needs and technological advancements.
• Collaborative leadership style with the ability to inspire and motivate team members
