Autonomy Engineer - AI & ML

Do you want to dive into the fast-growing industry of drones and get a rewarding experience in a dynamic start-up environment?

At Flyability, we believe that robots should be sent into hazardous places and dangerous situations instead of humans. To support our belief, we created Elios, the world’s first collision-tolerant flying robot that for the first time allows remote entry to complex and indoor spaces. With more than 100 employees, Flyability is the pioneer in the UAV indoor inspection industry. Joining Flyability is not just taking on a new job, it is seizing the opportunity to improve the life of millions of people and build the future of robotics.

To complete our creative and dynamic team in Lausanne, we are seeking an:

Autonomy Engineer - AI & ML Starting date: as soon as possible

Your role:

You will lead the data-driven side of our AI development, shaping how we collect, label, and use data to train models that generalize in real-world conditions. Beyond data, you will contribute to model selection, evaluation, and integration, helping ensure these models connect meaningfully with our autonomy systems.

This role involves close collaboration with our teams to develop and maintain the interfaces and logic required to execute complex robotic tasks.

What you will own:

  • Design and implementation of training pipelines, including dataset structuring, labeling strategies, and simulation integration
  • Specialization and adaptation of foundation models, including large language models (LLMs), using techniques like fine-tuning, RAG, and vector database integration
  • Development of robust evaluation pipelines for both conventional models and LLMs, including stratified test sets, error analysis, and performance tracking
  • Integration of trained models into execution pipelines in collaboration with our other teams

Your profile:

  • 3+ years of experience training and tuning deep learning models on real or simulated data
  • Solid understanding of how data quality, diversity, and labeling influence model behavior and generalization
  • Experience analyzing training dynamics, debugging performance issues, and tuning hyperparameters
  • Proficient in Python and modern ML frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow)
  • Experience integrating ML models into larger systems or pipelines, ideally in robotics or embedded contexts

Flyability is a young Swiss company that values independent thinking combined with a collaborative spirit. Every day, you will have the opportunity to share your ideas and contribute to solving problems. We all work together, and each voice is important to move forward.

We know the confidence gap and impostor syndrome can get in the way of meeting spectacular candidates, so please don’t hesitate to apply —regardless of your past experience or resume, we’d love to hear from you.
