Applied AI/ML Lead

About the role

We are looking for an Applied AI Lead to join our product team and lead the transformation of how we build and ship AI-powered features at Peatix. This role sits at the intersection of product development and AI implementation, where you’ll directly impact how our platform leverages modern AI capabilities to enhance user experiences. As AI/LLM technologies have revolutionized what’s possible over the past three years, we need someone who can navigate this rapidly evolving landscape. Your mission is to identify, implement, and optimize AI-driven solutions while ensuring they meet production standards. Additionally, you’ll play a crucial role in our broader transformation: introducing AI-assisted development practices across our engineering organization, helping our teams work more efficiently and effectively with AI coding tools.

What makes this role unique:

Unlike traditional ML engineering roles that focus on model deployment and infrastructure, or data science roles that emphasize model training and development, this position is about practical application of AI to solve real user problems. You’ll have the autonomy to identify opportunities, prototype solutions, and see them through to production. You’ll also shape how our entire organization approaches AI-assisted development.

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement AI/LLM-powered features across Peatix products, including personalized recommendations, content moderation, intelligent search, and automated support systems
• Write production-quality code that integrates AI models and services, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance
• Practice Eval-driven development for AI features, establishing evaluation frameworks and metrics (precision/recall, confusion matrices, A/B testing) to guide iterative improvements
• Partner with Product Managers to identify opportunities where AI can solve user problems more effectively than traditional approaches
• Lead the adoption of AI coding assistants and practices across the development team, establishing best practices and training materials
• Create proofs-of-concepts and prototypes to validate AI solutions before full implementation
• Monitor emerging AI technologies and assess their potential application to Peatix’s challenges
• Build internal tools and frameworks that make it easier for other teams to leverage AI capabilities
• Collaborate with engineers to ensure smooth deployment and monitoring of AI features in production

Required qualifications and skills:

• 3+ years of software development experience with a focus on building production systems
• Hands-on experience implementing AI/ML solutions, particularly with modern LLMs (GPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.)
• Strong programming skills and experience with AI/ML frameworks (LangChain, HuggingFace, OpenAI APIs, etc.)
• Data analysis and statistical evaluation skills to assess model performance, conduct experiments, and interpret metrics for data-driven decision making
• Proven ability to ship features from concept to production, including API development and integration
• Understanding of ML fundamentals: model evaluation, A/B testing, bias detection, and performance metrics
• Familiarity with AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, etc.) and enthusiasm for AI-assisted development
• Excellent communication skills to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders

Desirable qualifications and skills:

• Experience building advanced LLM applications such as AI Agents, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems, multi-step reasoning workflows, or other complex AI-powered solutions
• Experience with MLOps practices and model monitoring in production
• Background in traditional machine learning/data science
• Experience leading technical transformations or introducing new technologies to teams
• Ability to work with Japanese language content (the majority of our content is in Japanese)

• Peatix has offices in Tokyo, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and New York. If you’re located in those cities.
• You’ll be working with team members in Australia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and the United States
